Our Company's History

Kawkawlin Roofing Company was established in May, 1964 by Wesley E. Gittins and Irene Gittins as a sole proprietorship with seventeen years experience in the roofing industry. The company was incorporated in December, 1975 with Wesley as President and Irene as Secretary/Treasurer. Norman Gittins, their son, started in the business doing bookwork in 1969 and then out on the job sites in 1973. Norman was elected Vice President in 1977 and then elected President in 1992 upon the retirement of Wesley. Irene resigned as Secretary/Treasurer in 2001 and Norman's wife, Linda Gittins, was elected to that position.
Chad Gittins, son of Norm and Linda, has been working for Kawkawlin Roofing since 2004 and is currently the safety manager. He is learning the estimating and every day business procedures in preparation to being elected as an officer and future owner of Kawkawlin Roofing Company.
Charles Christopherson began working for Kawkawlin Roofing Co. in August, 1983 as a roofing helper and become a foreman. Chuck became an estimator and elected as Vice President in 1992.
Gary Sebald began working for Kawkawlin Roofing Co.in September of 1980 as a roofing helper and became job site foreman. Gary became an estimator and elected as Vice President in 2000.
Kawkawlin Roofing Co. started out doing built-up roofing applications and residential shingle roofs. In the late '60s and early '70s, Kawkawlin Roofing began doing more commercial roof applications and expanded the work area beyond the Tri-City area. In the late '70s, Kawkawlin Roofing began installing the low sloped single ply roof systems and standing seam metal roofs throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan on schools, hospitals, commercial and industrial buildings.
